Shah Rukn e Alam

Rukn ud Din Abul Fateh (Shah Rukn e Alam) is the grandson of Bahauddin Zakariya, famous saint of Suharwardi clan from Multan
12th century Multan was an established center of knowledge & Sufism
Due to numerous mausolea it’s called City of Shrines

The magnificent tomb termed as “tour de force and the finest achievement of the Multan builders” by Kamil Khan Mumtaz is a precursor to monuments at Uch & Tughlaq Tombs at Delhi
Its construction (1320-24) even before the death of Shah Rukn e Alam (1335) has an interesting tale

The tomb was built by Ghiasuddin Tughlaq who later became the ruler of Delhi
After his death & burial in Delhi, the tomb was gifted to followers of Shah Rukn e Alam
At that time the body of the saint initially interred at Bahauddin Zakariya’s shrine moved to the present mausoleum
